Final leveling of walls before painting

07.10.2025

Perfectly smooth walls are not only about aesthetics, but also about the quality of the repair as a whole. Painting or decorating does not correct the flaws of the base, but only emphasizes them. That is why the finishing of surfaces is one of the most important stages. It determines how the paint will lay, how stable the coating will be, and what the final result will be. In this article, we will look at how to properly level walls before painting to avoid mistakes.

Advantages of using modern materials

Finishing leveling of walls before painting

In practice, preparation for painting often comes down to rough leveling and quick application of paint. However, if the goal is smooth walls with perfect geometry, basic solutions are not enough. For a high-quality result, it is important to use proven modern materials such as, for example, KREISEL 607. This is a ready-to-use finishing putty from the German manufacturer KRAYSEL.

Here are the main characteristics and advantages of the material that should be considered when choosing:

● ready to use, does not require mixing;

● extra white, which guarantees a clean finish;

● suitable for all typical substrates: concrete, brick, drywall, chipboard, OSB;

● applied with a roller, spatula or mechanical sprayer;

● can be applied both in a thin layer - "on the peel", and to level defects up to 3 mm deep, has high adhesion (≥ 0.3 MPa for concrete);

● drying time from 2 to 6 hours, full - 12–24 hours;

● consumption about 1.7 kg/m²/mm;

● allows for dust-free work thanks to the technology of finishing "wet finishing";

● odorless, easy to work with.

How to work with putty correctly?

Finishing putty requires accuracy, technical discipline and attention to detail. It is important not only to apply the composition, but also to create a stable, even surface for further actions. Among the main points to consider: ● carefully prepare the base: it should be cleaned of dust, grease, old coatings; ● apply putty in layers up to 3 mm; ● use a quality tool - a special plaster roller, a stainless steel spatula; ● apply each subsequent layer only after the previous one has dried; ● for dust-free processing, use a damp trowel after the initial setting; ● make sure that the putty layer is completely dry before sanding.

Tips from craftsmen: to achieve the best result, follow the correct sequence of actions and do not ignore the drying time. This will not only make sanding easier, but also prevent the paint from peeling in the future.

Cleaning work requires patience, because the final finishing of the room is not only the last step, but also the basis for all decorative finishing. That is why thin-layer leveling with the right material saves time and gives a better result.
