It was founded in Donetsk under the banner of the liberal tradition: • Priority of human rights. • Political freedoms. • Economic freedom. • Self-government. • National idea. The most famous representative of the Liberal party of Ukraine was the political scientist Vyacheslav Kovtun. He is a permanent guest of the controversial Russian political shows, where he performs the role of the ”Ukrainian side.” Until 2012 he was assistant to five deputies. In 2012 and 2014 Kovtun stood for the Verkhovna Rada according to lists of the Liberal party, both times unsuccessfully. At different times under the wing of LPU lit up such politicians as Mikhail Pozhivanov, Vladimir Lanovoy, Alexander Tabalov, Mykola Zhulynsky.
